Since 2016 Media Theory has provided strategic communications support for the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center. In partnership with the Center’s team, we have developed a clear voice across their communications platforms to grow social media reach and engagement and establish the Center as a thought leader in the international policy space.
We engage in a robust program of international media relations around events, reports, and key projects. Our work includes drafting and placing op-eds in top-tier media outlets, including the Washington Post, NBC News, and the New York Times, among others. In addition to drafting and executing daily social media content, we have designed and developed more than 40 microsites promoting thought leadership pieces and conducted digital marketing campaigns to broaden the Center’s reach and develop its online community.
The Atlantic Council’s Latin America Center is part of a global effort to address urgent multi-dimensional issues. Our support helps the Center’s experts focus on the critical task of conducting research and special projects around Latin America’s most pressing concerns. We provide the tools they need to effectively communicate their findings and continue their important work.
The Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity is a one-year global fellowship program based at the George Washington University Health Workforce Institute in Washington, DC, one of seven Atlantic Institute fellowships focused on eliminating global inequities. AFHE’s vision is to develop global leaders who understand the foundations of health inequity and have the knowledge, skills, and courage to build more equitable organizations and communities.
We added AFHE to our portfolio in September 2020 with a mandate to expand the pool of fellowship applicants, especially in the US and within demographic and professional gap areas, to promote the work of past fellows, and to help the fellowship find its voice as a leader in the health equity space.
We implemented a recruitment campaign using organic and paid social media promotion, cross-promotion with the fellowship’s ongoing research activities, and public support from the fellowship’s high-level partners and allies. The 2020 recruiting season garnered the highest number of applications in the fellowship’s history, including the highest number of US-based applicants.
Refining and implementing a core message has been a critical piece of our work with AFHE. Highlighting dozens of fellows from a diverse range of sectors, countries, and backgrounds has required flexibility and sensitivity as well as disciplined messaging.
Media Theory has a rigorous and tested experience of working on the ground in a series of cases and campaigns in Africa going back more than 10 years.
We began our work in Nigeria, where we have advised high-profile political figures who were facing unlawful persecution by the state. Our advocacy activity has expanded to markets such as Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
Working in support of legal teams in disputes, we have helped craft new narratives to highlight motives of opponents, and helped execute a broad media campaign to reinstate status.
We are also active in other sectors, where past clients have included investment interests in mining, oil, financial services, and engineering firms.
For the past 16 years, Media Theory has been the public relations agency of record for the international law firm of Amsterdam & Partners LLP.
Our company has worked in close collaboration with founding partner Robert Amsterdam across a broad range of historic, headline cases, from the Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Yukos campaign in Russia, to the defense of pro-democracy movement in Thailand, and more recent matters, such as the case of the Uganda opposition leader Bobi Wine.
Our work on behalf of the firm and their many international clients has included the establishment of influential web platforms, organizing of press conferences, media interviews and television appearances, and co-authoring of opinion articles and white papers.
Our team of experienced professionals share their thoughts and views on a vast array of subjects.
In the grand scheme of things, foreign relations between the United States and the People’s Republic of China have focused more so on balancing competition and cooperation, while fairly regularly omitting one key issue. We’re talking, of course, about human rights, or the lack thereof in China.
